Titled&nbsp;<em>\u201cIs It Too Late?: Toward an Ecological Civilization,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;the hybrid conference brought together over 100 scholars and practitioners from more than a dozen countries to explore urgent pathways toward a sustainable, just, and equitable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event was organized by the Center for Process Studies and the Institute for Postmodern Development of China, with&nbsp;<strong>CST Associate Professor Wm. Andrew Schwartz<\/strong>&nbsp;serving as a lead organizer and guiding voice throughout the three-day gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cst-students-at-the-forefront\">CST Students at the Forefront<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Four CST doctoral students presented original research that bridged theology, philosophy, and global justice:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Heeyoung Jung<\/strong>\u00a0explored\u00a0<em>\u201cBraiding Wisdom,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0weaving together ancestral spirituality, ecological consciousness, and relational justice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kumrila Mongzar<\/strong>\u00a0shared insights on\u00a0<em>\u201cMind Beyond the Human,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0engaging Indigenous cosmologies to reconceive cognition in a more-than-human world.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Thomas Reinehr<\/strong>\u00a0posed the provocative question,\u00a0<em>\u201cCan Artificial Intelligence Terminate the Ecological Crisis?\u201d<\/em>\u00a0examining emerging technologies through a process philosophical lens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>JungEun Park<\/strong>\u00a0presented\u00a0<em>\u201cIndigenous Peoples\u2019 Rights for the Real Climate Change,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0comparing Bolivian and UN frameworks with an ecofeminist and process-relational perspective.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese students exemplified CST\u2019s commitment to deep thinking grounded in compassion, justice, and belonging,\u201d said Dr. Schwartz. \u201cTheir contributions were among the highlights of the conference. I&#8217;m very proud of them.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-honoring-cobb-s-legacy-and-inspiring-new-action\">Honoring Cobb&#8217;s Legacy and Inspiring New Action<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The forum marked the centenary of CST emeritus professor and pioneering ecological theologian&nbsp;<strong>John B. Cobb, Jr.<\/strong>, whose 1971 book&nbsp;<em>Is It Too Late?<\/em>&nbsp;helped spark the ecological theology movement. It also commemorated the tenth anniversary of CPS\u2019s landmark 2015 \u201cSeizing an Alternative\u201d conference. In honor of his lifelong work in environmental education,&nbsp;<strong>David W. Orr<\/strong>&nbsp;received this year\u2019s&nbsp;<em>John Cobb Common Good Award<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-global-moment\">A Global Moment<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The forum garnered international media attention\u2014including coverage on China\u2019s national CCTV news\u2014and featured more than 20 scholars from leading Chinese universities and research institutes. U.S.\u2013China relations and the urgent need for international cooperation emerged as recurring themes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a reflection of Cobb\u2019s own vision, the conference embraced the conviction shared by the late Pope Francis: that the ecological and social crises are not separate, but one interwoven challenge.
