In the CST Toolbox this month, an invitation from Disciples Seminary Foundation! DSF invites the CST community to its brand-new, free, online webinars that celebrate National Coming Out Day.

LGBTQI: Deciphering the Alphabet Soup (especially if you’ve been too embarrassed to ask!) with Robin Knauerhase will be held on Tuesday, October 9 at 5:00 p.m. PST. In this one-hour webinar, Robin will unpack just what each of these initials means and answer questions you may have been afraid to ask. If you want your church or organization to be more inclusive but you’re not sure how to go about it, this webinar is for you. Even if your church or organization is already inclusive, this webinar will give you the tools to go deeper.

Robin Knauerhase is a member of the First Christian Church of Portland and the first trans Moderator of the Disciples LGBTQ+ Alliance. Her passion for queer-Christian equality stems in part from being rejected by her home church when she transitioned, and in part from the literalist interpretations of scripture she “soaked up” from her extended family.

Can Paul Be an Ally? Reclaiming the Apostle from Misogyny and Homophobia with Eric Smith is the second webinar offering from DSF and will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 5:30 p.m. PST. This webinar is designed for anyone who harbors resentment or anger at the apostle Paul or who is concerned about the ways Paul has been used as a weapon for centuries. If you want to support women and queer spaces in the church with biblically-sound arguments, this webinar is for you. At the end of this webinar, you may even find Paul to be an ally.

Eric is the Director of Pastoral Formation at DSF and serves as Term Assistant Professor at Iliff School of Theology. He is ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and has served churches in the United Methodist and United Church of Christ traditions. Eric is also the author of several books, including a forthcoming book from Chalice Press tentatively titled Paul the Progressive: Learning to Love the Apostle You Love to Hate.

Registration is FREE for these webinars, but space is limited. Register online today at or contact Katy Valentine, Director of Online Learning, by emailing for more information.
