City of Angels: Religion, History and Art in Los Angeles

An Intensive Experiential Learning Course Taught In-Person in Los Angeles
August 24-28 | Cost for Community Participants: $500
City of Angels will invite students into deep reflection and knowledge about the history, present, and future of religion and art in Los Angeles through experiential learning, reading, and community-engaged scholarship. Throughout the intensive week, we will visit religious sites and communities across Los Angeles that have spiritual and artistic significance to explore the impacts of art, design and ritual on one of America’s most diverse cities and on religion in the Americas more broadly.
This is an intensive experiential learning course taught in-person in Los Angeles from August 24th-28th.
Cost for Community Participants: $500
Participants will need to provide their own lodging and transportation to and from the CST campus in Westwood at the beginning and end of each class day.

“Theology” literally means “Talking about God,” and it’s a conversation that’s been happening between individuals, communities, and the divine for thousands of years. Join a community of learners at Claremont School of Theology as we explore how communities in Los Angeles are talking about God–with and without words–and how to construct models for knowing God among us as we face our communities’ most pressing problems.

Young People in Congregations

An online course meeting every other Wednesday 6-7:30 Pacific Time
September 2- December 2 | Cost for Community Participants: $200
Struggling to connect with young people in your congregation and community? This course examines the challenges and opportunities of intergenerational ministry. Learn the ways developmental theory in faith formation can help us understand one another across generational differences, gain skills to prepare your congregation to welcome and support young people today, and explore practical models for religious education and formation with children, families, youth, and young adults.
This is a hybrid course with asynchronous and synchronous elements, meeting in-person in Westwood or online Wednesdays from 6-7:30pm Pacific from September 2-December 2. In-person attendance is not required.
