萊拉圖爾·菲特里亞

My work ranges from comparative analysis of Christian and Islamic feminisms, feminist interreligious dialogue, decoloniality, gender, and religions, and Critical Muslim Studies. I currently also serve as a Visiting Professor at Emmanuel College of Victoria University in the University of Toronto. I hold an MA in International Peace Studies from the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies-University of Notre Dame. Between 2015-2016, I was a Nostra Aetate Fellow at the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue (PCID), Vatican City.

My first book project interrogates the constructions of Muslim and Christian anti-patriarchal theologies from the lives of Indonesian Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs) who work and live in Singapore. This project aims to locate the Indonesian MDWs as border theologians that they are. Through an anthropological observation of the MDWs’ daily work and lives I position the MDWs’ embodied religiosities as fragments of Muslim and Christian theologies that show the transnational faces of both religious traditions in diaspora, and as resources for decolonial struggles against racial capitalism.

I regularly write and give talks about the nexus of oppression suffered by minority groups in Indonesia within the Indonesian political process, and colonial legacies in the country. My upcoming research project deals with the forms of Islamic and Christian theologies and embodied rituals that are being used as symbols of resistance in the struggles of Indonesian local communities against the practices of land-grabs and environmental exploitations, and coloniality as a condition for theological knowledge production in Indonesia.

My research interests include Comparative Muslim-Christian feminist theologies; Muslim-Christian relations; Feminist interreligious dialogue; Islam and Christianity in Southeast Asia; Religion, gender, and migration; Critical Muslim studies; Decoloniality and religions; and Islamic peacebuilding process.

Doctoral dissertation projects that I would like to advise include, but not limited to: Islamic Studies, Islamic and Christian-based feminisms, decoloniality and religions, Islam and Christianity in Asia, Anthropology of religions, Interreligious Studies, and religious-based peacebuilding process.
