Alumni Spotlight: Rev. Tomeka Jacobs, PhD

My name is Rev. Tomeka Jacobs, PhD, and I am a proud graduate of the Doctor of Philosophy in Practical Theology program, where I specialized in Education and Formation.

Currently, I serve as the Assistant Professor of Theology at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota. I also recently celebrated a major milestone with the publication of my book, Ecocosmological Spirituality of Southern Queer Black Women: (Re)Membering and Reconnecting Identity, in August 2025.

Reflecting on my education, CST prepared me to navigate an interdisciplinary and plural world with a mindset rooted in compassion and critical analysis. I wish more people knew that CST is not a traditional seminary or theological school. Rather, it is a refuge for those seeking safety from harm while divesting from toxicity and the complacency that comes with upholding the patriarchy. For me, it proved to be rich ground for theological exploration and creativity.
